E-commerce accessibility: what to check on your website
Italy’s Legislative Decree 82/2022 includes e-commerce services and exempts microenterprises providing services. For businesses in scope, testing needs to follow the whole purchase: finding a product, using the basket, paying and getting help.

Check whether the service is covered
Compare the business and service with AgID’s criteria. The microenterprise exemption concerns services; establish the classification before planning the work.
Test a complete purchase
Use the website with a keyboard and assistive technology. Check variant selection, forms, error messages and payment. Record any point where someone cannot continue.
Assign the corrections
Separate content, design, development and third-party service issues. Give each an owner and a check to repeat after the fix, including checkout and support.
Make content understandable
Write error messages that identify the field to fix and explain how. After entering an incomplete postcode, for example, the person should be able to reach the field and complete it. Repeat the test using a keyboard and screen reader.
Retest after changes
When the theme, components or catalogue changes, retest the affected journeys. Keep findings and corrections for the people maintaining the website after launch.
Share an issue list with the page, purchase step, owner and test to repeat after each correction.
